The Testament of Abraham

And when the most holy Abraham saw these things, he said to Death, “I beg you, utterly destructive Death, hide your ferocity and put on the beauty and form which you had before.”

Immediately Death hid his ferocity and put on his beauty which he had before.

But Abraham said to Death, “Why did you do this, that you killed all my children and maidservants? Did God send you here today for this reason?”

And Death said, “No, my lord Abraham, it is not as you say; but I was sent here for your sake.”

But Abraham said to Death, “And how did these die? Did not even the Lord speak?”

But Death said, “Believe, most righteous Abraham, that even this is wondrous, that you were not snatched away with them; but nevertheless, I will tell you the truth:

For if the right hand of God had not been with you at that hour, you too would have departed from this life.”

But the righteous Abraham said, “Now I know that I came to a disregard for death, so that my spirit was about to fail.

But I beg you, utterly destructive Death, since the children have also died untimely, come, let us entreat the Lord our God that he may hear us and raise up those who have died untimely because of your ferocity.”

And Death said, “Amen, may it be so.” Then Abraham arose and fell upon his face to the earth, praying, and Death with him.

And God sent a spirit of life upon those who had died, and they were brought back to life. Then, therefore, the righteous Abraham gave glory to God.
