What it is

Plain, funny, furious preaching before the king and at Paul's Cross about enclosures, bribery, absentee clergy, and the poverty of English farmers.

Why it lasted

The finest English preaching of the century and the sharpest social criticism; its author was burned at Oxford in 1555.
