Thirteen instructions for monks on faith, simplicity, the fear of God, gluttony and lust, written in a Syriac of unusual clarity and almost no polemic.

Why it lasted

The finest ascetic prose in Syriac, by a bishop otherwise known for the ferocity of his opposition to Chalcedon.
