What it is
A scholarly translation with verse numbers, roman type, maps, and extensive marginal notes — some of which told readers when a king might be disobeyed.
Why it lasted
The Bible of Shakespeare, the Puritans, and the Mayflower. James I disliked its notes so much that he commissioned a replacement.
