What it is
Terse year-by-year records of what the king did. One tablet notes that in the seventh year of Nebuchadnezzar he encamped against the city of Judah and on the second day of Adar captured the city and seized its king, appointing one of his own choice and taking heavy tribute back to Babylon.
Why it lasted
Dates the first fall of Jerusalem to 16 March 597 BC — the only event in the Old Testament that can be fixed to a single day. Another tablet records rations issued in Babylon to Jehoiachin and his sons, exactly as 2 Kings 25 says.
