What it is
A proclamation read aloud on the first Sunday of Lent, blessing the defenders of icons by name and anathematising their opponents, expanded over the centuries as new errors were added.
Why it lasted
Still recited annually in Orthodox churches, it is the closest thing Eastern Christianity has to a running index of what it has rejected.
