What it is
A commentary on a hymn to Attis, read so that the mysteries of the Phrygians, the Egyptians, the Assyrians, and the Greeks all turn out to be saying what the gospel says, with the primal Man at the centre of every one of them.
Why it lasted
The boldest surviving attempt to read the whole religious world as anonymous Christianity, and the richest single source for what the mystery cults actually taught.
