What it is
The gospel expanded with imagined detail — what Mary said to the midwife, how Joseph carried the child — and instructions to picture each scene as though present.
Why it lasted
Circulated under Bonaventure's name and enormously influential on late medieval art and drama, which took many scenes from here rather than from scripture.
