What it is
Letters from the head of an order to a nun he loved, unembarrassed about affection, missing her, and apologising for how rarely he can write.
Why it lasted
One of the most tender correspondences of the Middle Ages, and evidence that friendship between men and women in religion was possible and could be written down.
