What it is
Forty theses distinguishing a theologian of glory, who sees God in works and power, from a theologian of the cross, who recognises him in suffering and shame.
Why it lasted
The clearest early statement of Luther's whole theology, and the occasion at which Bucer and several future reformers were won over.
