What it is
The competing manifestos of 1378: one body of cardinals declaring Urban VI validly elected, the same body months later declaring the election void under duress and choosing another.
Why it lasted
The beginning of forty years of two and then three rival popes, and the crisis that made conciliar theory a practical necessity.
