What it is

A continuous commentary on the four gospels assembled entirely from patristic quotations, chained together so the fathers appear to comment in sequence.

Why it lasted

It brought a great deal of Greek patristic exegesis into Latin circulation for the first time, some of it newly translated for the purpose.
