The Acts of Peter
Anonymous
Read elsewhere
What it is
Peter's contest with Simon Magus in Rome, ending with the sorcerer's flight and fall, and with Peter's own crucifixion head downward after meeting Christ on the road out of the city.
Why it lasted
The source of the Quo Vadis scene and of the tradition of Peter's inverted cross, neither of which is in the New Testament.
Where to read it
Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.
These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
